Things Gotta Change

For Sladek’s »Things Gotta Change«, the visual identity journeys back to the 1960s soul and 1970s optical art movements. The design translates auditory movement into kinetic graphic energy. Generative wave patterns, coded via a custom p5.js sketch, behave exactly like sound waves—flowing, overlapping, and ultimately crashing against the typographic structure.
The chosen typeface, Eesti, provides a rigid, geometric anchor reminiscent of classic mid-century fonts like Futura. This kinetic methodology extends directly to the physical record itself. The center label functions as a working phenakistiscope, creating genuine optical animation as it physically spins on the turntable.
