GUKUBI Certificate pass

GUKUBI MATO Certificate pass, Matthäus Jandl

The Graz-based artist collective GUKUBI MATO wants to make art more accessible. To play with the overly serious art world, they operate as a satirical, highly bureaucratic Japanese corporation from the 1980s. This identity relies on an obsession with rules, stamps, and endless labels.

Every artwork comes with this exaggerated Certification Pass to prove its authenticity. Validating it requires an absurdly performative process of multiple signatures and layered stamps. The document features their logo, a Japanese kamon showing two green balaclavas worn by the members for privacy. Printed on Pergraphica Timid Grey using the PP Mori typeface, the certificate functions as a humorous love letter to the rigid, functional beauty of old corporate Japan.
